Former midfielder Anthony Pulis began his career as a youth footballer with Portsmouth FC. After graduating to the senior game and spending two years at the club, Anthony went on to play for Stoke City FC, Southampton FC, Bristol Rovers FC, Barnet FC, and a host of other English football clubs before he took an exciting leap and moved over the pond to join Orlando City SC in Florida.
Considering himself a perpetual student of the beautiful game, Anthony had always known he wanted to make the transition to coaching when he hung up his boots as a player. At the end of the 2014 season when the time came for him to begin a new chapter in football, Anthony understood he would need an outstanding CV that communicated his value as a coach to make the transition as smooth as possible.
Anthony began working diligently to forge a pathway to coaching, completing his UEFA qualifications and seeking out new opportunities for professional development. It was during this journey in 2016 that he came into contact with Football Careers:
“I completed my UEFA A Licence coaching qualification with the Football Association of Wales. We heard about Football Careers on the course and I saw first-hand the quality of their products — I reached out straight away to get the ball rolling on putting my CV together.”
Anthony consulted with our team of dedicated football CV writers and graphic designers for advice and guidance:
“We reviewed different examples of CVs Football Careers had put together for other coaches. I picked the styles I liked and sent the information required for my CV along with testimonials from my references. Soon after, the team sent me proofs to review and we agreed on an outstanding final document for me to use in my job search. The final products have always been outstanding. They are clear, laid out fantastically well, and look very professional.”
Anthony’s 12-year career as a professional football player took him from England to America and saw him called up to appear in the Wales U21 national team squad. After his final spell as a player at Orlando City SC, Anthony returned to the club as a coach to lead Orlando City B. Since then, he has utilised his Football Careers CV to further advance his coaching career in America:
“I have been a client of Football Careers since 2016 and my most recent football coaching roles at St Louis FC, Inter Miami CF, and Miami FC have all started with my CV being submitted to the clubs’ upper management teams. I feel my Football Careers CV has been massively beneficial to me. The content and design really stands out from other CVs you see and I believe this makes a huge difference out here in the States.”
Many football players who make the transition to coaching are unsure where to start when it comes to putting together a strong CV and beginning the search for a suitable role. Anthony offers a unique perspective as a player and coach who has a wealth of experience in the beautiful game both in the UK and in America. For aspiring football coaches seeking opportunities domestically or abroad, Anthony shared this advice:
“Get out and about in the football world as much as possible. Watch matches and attend seminars and conferences to make connections and widen your understanding of the game. Reach out to clubs and ask them if you can observe their training. This thirst for knowledge makes a positive impression on people and allows you to build up a network of contacts within football, which can only be a good thing when it comes to looking for new roles.”
