The Great Britain Medical Football Team is a national representative side made up of qualified doctors who play at the annual World Medical Football Championships.

The majority of our players are either ex-professional, ex-academy, current non-league, or former first-team university footballers. We have won four of the last five world championships, including in 2024 and 2025, reaching five consecutive finals.

The World Medical Football Championships is now a large-scale event, held in a different country each year. The competition features nearly a thousand doctors/footballers, competing in a knock-out format eleven-a-side tournament, alongside veterans and women’s competitions.

About the Role

Following the resignation of our Head Coach to pursue other opportunities after six tournaments in the role, we are looking for the right candidate to help continue our run of success. Applicants are NOT required to be qualified medics.

This is a wonderful opportunity to coach attentive and committed footballers, lead a representative squad at a world championship, and travel internationally.

This is a non-salaried role, but expenses such as fuel, equipment, flights abroad, accommodation, and associated costs will be paid (sum to be agreed with the committee prior to acceptance).

Job Requirements

  • UEFA A or UEFA B Licence
  • Experience coaching or managing a side at either professional, senior non-league, representative, or academy level (preferably professional development phase)
  • Availability to travel and deliver training one Sunday per month at locations around the UK, plus two weekend-long camps, and attend the championships (typically 7-10 days away)
  • Strong tactical and technical knowledge and the ability to plan and deliver sessions relevant to an overarching game model and player needs
  • Ability to manage a multi-disciplinary team, including an assistant coach and physio
  • Take responsibility for tactical approach and match day selection, working towards the aim of winning tournaments
  • Talent ID skills to select the strongest possible 25-player squad
  • Emotional intelligence, empathy, and other ‘soft skills’ to bring the best out of individuals and the team
  • Able to represent Great Britain, non-league football, and the medical profession with respect, dignity, and professionalism on the world stage
  • Work ethic beyond scheduled hours to identify/recruit players, analyse opponents, plan sessions, assist with tournament preparations, and be a part of the organising committee

Applicants must be resident in the UK
