Chris Burke appointed Assistant Coach at Brentford B
- Burke had a 20-year playing career and featured for clubs such as Rangers, Cardiff City, and Birmingham City
- He most recently coached at Kilmarnock, working in a variety of roles across the Academy and first team
Chris Burke has been appointed Assistant Coach of Brentford’s B Team.
He joins from Kilmarnock, where he was U18 & U19 Head Coach, and served as the club’s Head of Development. Burke also spent time supporting the coaching of the first team. At the international level, Burke was assistant coach to Brentford first-team coach Neil MacFarlane with Scotland’s U19 squad in the 2024-2025 season.
Born in Glasgow, the former midfielder began his professional career at Rangers. He spent seven years at the club before moving to Cardiff City in 2009. He then had spells at Birmingham City, Nottingham Forest, and Ross County before finishing his playing career at Kilmarnock.
Burke made over 500 appearances and scored over 80 goals in a playing career that lasted twenty years. He won the Scottish Premier League in 2004-05 and the Scottish League Cup in 2007-08 (both with Rangers) and earned seven caps for Scotland, scoring twice.
Now, he takes on a new challenge with Brentford’s B Team. Interim Academy Director Jamie Greenwood told official club channels:
“We’re really pleased to welcome Chris to the club following a thorough recruitment process. Chris brings valuable coaching experience at both club and international level, alongside a strong professional playing background, which we believe will add real value to our B-team environment. He has a clear understanding of player development and the demands of the pathway, and we’re confident he will play an important role in supporting our young players as they continue their transition towards first-team football.”
The B team currently plays in the Under-21 Professional Development League, which is comprised of twenty clubs from Category Two Academies. Brentford’s B Team will be looking to continue its success after winning the league in the 2024-25 season.
We’re delighted to see Burke appointed in such an exciting role, and we wish him and Brentford all the best in the coming years.
