Following his retirement from professional football, Football Careers Brand Ambassador, David Marshall has been appointed Technical Performance Manager at Hibernian FC.
After a remarkable twenty-two-year playing career, during which he made 760 first team appearances, legendary goalkeeper David Marshall has announced his retirement from professional football.
Having spent such a long time in the game, you’d be forgiven for thinking Marshall would be taking a break from football, but you’d be wrong. Having spent two years at the club leading up to his retirement, the former Scotland international has transitioned into the role of Hibernian FC’s new Technical Performance Manager.
Marshall made his professional debut back in 2003 for Celtic, going onto win two league titles and a Scottish Cup across five years at the club.
After leaving Celtic in 2007, the 39-year-old spent the next twenty years of his career in English football, playing for Norwich City, Cardiff City, Hull City, Wigan Athletic, Derby County and Queens Park Rangers, before returning to Scotland with Hibs in 2022.
Marshall went onto make 86 appearances for the Hibees before announcing his retirement from the game and assuming his new role at the club.
Speaking to Hibernian FC following the announcement of his new position, Marshall said: “Having made the decision to retire from football, I’m delighted to be given the opportunity in this role at the Football Club.
“I’ve got to know and understand the Club over the last two seasons and I look forward to working closely with Malky Mackay to create an environment which can deliver success both on and off the pitch.
“This new role is a great opportunity for me to work across various different performance departments within the Football Club and to learn from Malky who has years of experience in the game.”
Everyone at Football Careers congratulates David on his accomplished playing career and wishes him all the best in his new role.
