Don Cowie Secures another Scottish Premiership Season for Ross County
- Cowie had been Interim Head Coach since February
- The 6-1 aggregate defeat of Raith Rovers has seen him secure the job full-time
Football Careers client Don Cowie has kept Ross County in the Scottish Premiership after winning the play-off final 6-1 on aggregate. His team faced Championship side Raith Rovers in the two-legged tie, after Rovers had defeated Partick Thistle to secure the chance to gain promotion.
Cowie had been coaching at the Dingwall club since March 2019, starting as the under-18s Head Coach. He spent just over a year in the role before stepping up to the senior side, initially as a First Team Coach – then as Assistant Manager, the role he has been in since June 2021. However, after former Ross County manager Derek Adams resigned in February of this year, Cowie took interim charge of the side.
County then finished 11th in the league on goal difference, narrowly missing out on securing safety in the regular season. Safety was still in their own hands though, and they dealt with what looked like a tricky tie on paper with ease.
A 2-1 win away from home in the first leg thanks to goals from Yan Dhanda and Jack Baldwin gave County all the control going into their home leg. Yet they didn’t take their foot off the pedal and secured a fifth straight season in Scotland’s top flight. Two goals from Simon Murray and one a piece from Jordan White and Brandon Khela secured their place in the division.
This has cemented the full-time role as Ross County’s manager for Football Careers client Don Cowie and we’re excited to see their progress next season and beyond as a Scottish Premiership side.
