Éamon Zayed joins Corpus Christi as Head Coach & Sporting Director
- The former Libya international played in the USL for Indy Eleven, Charlotte Independence, and Chattanooga Red Wolves
- He took up his first head coach role in 2021, leading Northern Colorado Hailstorm in its inaugural season
Football Careers are excited to announce that Éamon Zayed has been named Head Coach and Sporting Director at Corpus Christi FC. The Texas side has been competing in USL League Two since 2018, but will step up to USL League One next year with Zayed at the helm.
Zayed was born in Dublin and played for the Republic of Ireland’s youth sides ten times before declaring for Libya (who he qualified for through his grandparents) in October 2010. The former forward featured eight times for the Mediterranean Knights, scoring one goal against Equatorial Guinea in a 1-1 draw.
His club career began at Irish side Bray Wanderers and he went on to star for a host of clubs in his native Ireland, including Drogheda United, Derry City, Shamrock Rovers, and Sligo Rovers. Zayed also represented Persepolis in Iran and Sabah in Malaysia before closing out his career in America, playing for Indy Eleven, Charlotte Independence, and Chattanooga Red Wolves. As a player, he won a League of Ireland title, the FAI Cup, and the Setanta Sports Cup.
In 2021, the UEFA A Licence holder was appointed the first-ever head coach of Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC, who competed in USL League One at the time.
Zayed and his Hailstorm squad broke club and league records together and clinched the inaugural USL Jägermeister Cup in 2024, the first piece of silverware in the club’s history. In 2023, forward Trevor Amann set a league record for most goals scored in a season (23) and in 2024, the team had the most clean sheets in the league. Zayed also earned back-to-back USL Coach of the Year nominations in 2023 and 2024.
Now, Zayed will hope to continue that success with Corpus Christi, who he joins at an exciting time of growth. We wish Éamon and the club all the best in the coming seasons.
