Gary Bowyer named Burton Albion Head Coach
- Bowyer was most recently in charge of Scottish side Dundee
- He has also managed Blackburn Rovers, Blackpool and Salford City
We are delighted here at Football Careers to see client Gary Bowyer named Head Coach of Burton Albion. The Staffordshire based outfit currently sit second bottom of League One.
Bowyer has been in senior football management since 2012, when he was asked to be caretaker manager of Blackburn Rovers. In 2013 he was then made permanent manager of the club further down the line in May 2013. He has also had spells as Blackpool, Bradford City, Salford City and Dundee manager. He helped Blackpool reach the League Two play-offs in 2017 and secured promotion and the Scottish Championship title for Dundee in 2022-23.
Speaking to Burton’s own media channels, Bowyer said…
“We know there is a lot of work to do right now but I am excited by this challenge. I am looking forward to getting started now and working with the players to ensure we can achieve a strong second half to the season. We will demand that they give everything for the shirt to try and get us moving away from the bottom of the table and we know that is exactly what our supporters will want to see from this team too.”
Burton have been in League One since the 2018-19 season, after climbing the divisions and finding themselves in the Championship for a two-year spell. With a nine-point gap between them and Bristol Rovers (who occupy the last safe place in the table), there is a lot of work to be done, but we have full faith that Bowyer is the ideal candidate for this role.
He’ll be looking to the goals of Danilo Orsi up front and the performances of Elliot Watt in midfield to assist in Burton’s survival. We wish him and the club all the best for the coming season.
