Gary Naysmith’s Stenhousemuir win their first-ever league title
- The former Scotland international took over in 2023 after a spell at Edinburgh City
- Gary Naysmith's side have won the league with six games to spare
Stenhousemuir Football Club have won the cinch League Two title – their first in a 140-year history. Under the guidance of Football Careers client Gary Naysmith, they have collected 66 points from 33 games, sitting eleven points above Peterhead and Dumbarton.
Naysmith took over Stenhousemuir in 2023, after an illustrious playing career that saw him play in the Premier League for Everton and Sheffield United and make 46 appearances for Scotland. He stepped in to management in 2013 with East Fife, with further spells at Queen of the South and Edinburgh City.
The league title came with six games to spare, sealing promotion to League One with a 0-0 draw at home to East Fife. “The Warriors” have predominantly used a 4-2-3-1 under Gary Naysmith, and their success has been built on the foundations of defensive stability.
Naysmith’s side have conceded 25 goals so far this season – nine better than the next best defensive record in the league. At the attacking end of the pitch, they have relied on the goals of 26-year-old Matthew Aitken, who has scored 14 – the second best in League Two.
Football Careers is delighted to see the success Gary Naysmith is having at the Scottish club and we look forward to seeing them in League One next season.
