Gerard Jones joins Visakha FC as Head Coach
- He was Director of Coaching at Sporting Kansas City for over three years
- Visakha play in the Cambodian Premier League and have finished third for the past two seasons
Football Careers are thrilled to see client Gerard Jones appointed Head Coach of Visakha FC. The Blue Horses are based in Phnom Penh in Cambodia and play in the Cambodian Premier League – finishing runners-up twice in their nine-year history (2019 and 2022).
Jones began his coaching career in 2010 for Arsenal Soccer Schools in East Yorkshire, where he was Director of Coaching for the U7 to U15 age groups. He has also worked as Director, Head Coach and Player Development Coach at Premier Skills Coaching, Head Coach/Manager at Eccleshill United, U14s Lead Academy Coach at Rochdale, and more.
Most recently, Jones was Director of Coaching for the North Region for MLS side Sporting Kansas City. His responsibilities included developing and implementing a club-wide coaching curriculum, playing philosophy, and methodology.
He also mentored and educated coaches through one-on-one observations, support and workshops, and was in charge of designing, implementing, and measuring player and coaching evaluation and development plans. Additionally, Jones coached across almost every youth age group in the programme.
The skilled coach’s hard work and determination is displayed in his licences and certifications. Jones holds the US Soccer B Coach Educator Licence, an FA Advanced Youth Award, and a Director of Coaching Diploma from The Football Association.
His experience across different cultures, including the UK, the USA, and Morocco, make him the ideal candidate to take on this new role in Southeast Asia.
Visakha finished the 2023-24 season in third place, and the 2024-25 season in the same position. Despite never winning the top title (they have won the cup three consecutive times), they are well positioned for success.
Here at Football Careers, we’re extremely excited for Gerard and his new role. We wish him and the club all the best in the coming seasons.
