KR Reykjavik appoint John Andrews as Head Coach
- Andrews has a wealth of experience coaching in Iceland, India, and beyond
Football Careers are thrilled to see client John Andrews appointed as Head Coach of Icelandic side KR Reykjavik. He previously spent six years as Head Soccer Coach of Knattspyrnufélagið Víkingur, also in Iceland.
Andrews brings with him a wealth of experience and knowledge. He has served as Women’s Head Coach, Men’s Assistant Head Coach, and Head of Strength & Conditioning at IF Völsungur, Assistant Coach and Head of Strengthening at DSK Shivajians, and Assistant Coach and Head of Strength & Conditioning at Liverpool FC International Academy.
Andrews has also held other roles at the Football Association of Ireland, Icelandic FA, and UMF Afturelding.
His strong work ethic and commitment to coaching is displayed in his licences and certifications, holding his UEFA Pro Licence and having been an ISSA (International Sports Sciences Association) Certified Fitness Trainer since 2011.
KR Reykjavik currently sit bottom of the relegation group in Iceland, with 25 points gained from 25 games. However, there are still two games left to play, and potential safety is only three points out of reach – with a favourable goal difference.
Asked about Icelandic football earlier in the year by the Irish Sun, Andrews said:
“There’s a misconception, because of the small population, about the strength of football in the country. But the training facilities and the standard of coaching and football itself is incredible. Kids here are training four or five times a week from five or six so, technically, they are very advanced.”
Football Careers wish John and KR Reykjavik all the best in the coming season and beyond.
