John Carver secures Lechia Gdańsk's place in Poland's top flight
- Carver took over at Lechia Gdańsk in November of last year
- His impressive stint has seen the club survive relegation, gaining him a Coach of the Season nomination
Football Careers is excited to see client John Carver enjoying a successful time in Poland’s top tier, the Ekstraklasa. Carver is currently Manager of Lechia Gdańsk, who hail from the country’s sixth biggest city.
Carver joined Lechia Gdańsk at the end of November in 2024 and took over a club that found themselves in 17th place, one spot from the foot of the table.
He also had to deal with factors out of his control, such as a transfer ban placed on the club, financial arrears, and some organisational turmoil. Despite this, Carver managed to lead the side out of the relegation zone and secured another season of top-flight football with two games remaining.
This has seen him nominated for the Coach of the Season award in Poland. At Lechia, Carver has utilised a 4-4-1-1 formation, relying on goals from 23-year-old striker Tomáš Bobček and the creativity of 22-year-old Colombian Camilo Mena.
Alongside his managerial efforts in Poland, Carver has remained Assistant Coach of Scotland’s senior men’s team under manager Steve Clarke. He is part of one of the most successful Scotland teams of recent times, with qualification to two UEFA Euro competitions and Nations League success, including famous wins against Spain and Serbia (on penalties).
Carver began his coaching career in 1998, when he became caretaker manager of English side Gateshead. He has close links to his boyhood club Newcastle United, where he has been caretaker and interim manager on three occasions, ushering the club through some turbulent times. He has had further caretaker manager roles at Sheffield United and Leeds, as well as permanent and assistant roles at Toronto, Omonia Nicosia, and West Bromwich Albion.
Football Careers know John’s talents and believe this is just the beginning of his managerial success in Poland.
