Kenny Miller Settling in as First Team Coach at Atlanta United
- Miller began coaching in 2018, initially starting out as player-manager of SPFL side Livingston.
- His playing career included spells at Celtic, Rangers, Wolves and Vancouver Whitecaps

Football Careers are glad to see that client Kenny Miller has been settling in as First Team Coach at MLS side Atlanta United. He will work under current manager and former Celtic manager Ronny Deila.
Miller began coaching in 2018, initially starting out as player-manager of SPFL side Livingston. He then resumed his playing career for another few years before taking a coaching role at A-League side Newcastle Jets. He then followed Carl Robinson – his manager at Newcastle – to Western Sydney Wanderers. He has had further experience in coaching with Falkirk and Huddersfield.
Robinson will be a familiar face to Miller, as he will also form part of the coaching staff at the Georgia based side.
Before his coaching career, Miller had a glittering playing career – including playing in the league he will now coach in. He made 43 appearances in MLS with Vancouver Whitecaps, scoring 13 goals. He is best known, however, for his stints at Rangers. Miller has won league titles with both sides of Glasgow’s fierce rivalry, as well experiencing play-off victory during his time at Wolverhampton Wanderers. He also made 69 appearances for Scotland across his playing career, scoring 18 times.
Atlanta United – who won their only MLS cup in 2018 – finished last season in ninth place, the final play-off spot, in the Eastern Conference. They then shocked the footballing world by knocking out Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami in the first round, the huge favourites to win the whole thing. Unfortunately Orlando in the next round was a step too far for the side. This transfer window has seen them bring back Miguel Almiron from Newcastle for a second spell at the club.
Miller will get his coaching career in America underway with five pre-season fixtures. Atlanta played Life University and Tormenta on the 1st and 8th of February, with games against Georgia Gwinnett University, Clemson University and Birmingham Legion FC to come.
Football Careers believe the hiring of Miller is an excellent one for Atlanta, and wish them and Kenny all the best for the coming season.
