Luke Thomas-Arayo Appointed New First Team Coach at Newcastle United Women’s
- Thomas-Arayo had most recently been at London City Lionesses
- His experience in women's football and credentials - including his UEFA A Licence - make him the ideal candidate

Client Luke Thomas-Arayo has been appointed First Team Coach at Newcastle United Women’s Football Club and everyone at Football Careers is delighted for him. He was most recently at London City Lionesses, where he held several roles, including as Head Coach of their U21’s and Interim First Team Assistant Coach.
His new role sees him join Newcastle United Women’s, who currently play in the FA Women’s Super League 2 – the second division of women’s football in England. The side currently sit in 7th (of 11) with 15 points but are just four points of league leaders Birmingham City.
Luke brings a wealth of experience in women’s football. As well as his various roles in over three years at London City Lionesses, he has also been Head Coach of Charlton Athletic Women’s Under-12’s side, Assistant Lead Ladies Academy Director and Lead Coach at Under-16’s level for West Ham United and Assistant Girls Academy Football Coach at Barking Abbey School.
He is particularly strong at player development and designing creative coaching programmes. His commitment to furthering himself and those around him is displayed by him holding his UEFA A Licence, as well as currently being on his way to gaining the LMA Diploma in Football Management. Luke graduated from the FA Mentee Development Programme, where Football Careers worked with a group for the day earlier this year at Wembley Stadium. We were thoroughly impressed with him, in particular he excelled in his mock interview.
His new role will see him assist and support the manager and assistant manager with all aspects of coaching, match preparation and analysis and player development. He’ll plan, prepare and implement coaching sessions for the first team squad, whilst also analysing those sessions. He’ll also be in charge of individual player development and analysis.
Football Careers are thrilled for Luke and believe his new role with Newcastle United Women’s is both the result of years of hard work and a springboard to be an even better coach. We wish him and the club all the best for the future.
