Malky Mackay Appointed Sporting Director at Hibernian
- Mackay was previously Performance Director at the Scottish Football Association
- His first task at Hibernian will be to lead the search for a new manager

Football Careers are delighted to announce that Malky Mackay has been appointed Sporting Director at SPFL club Hibernian. He will officially begin his new role on the 1st of June.
This new role will see Mackay in charge of Hibernian’s entire football operation, overseeing player recruitment, squad management and the club’s academy. One of his first tasks at the Edinburgh club will see him lead in their search for a new manager, as Nick Montgomery was relieved of his duties after seven months in charge.
It has been a disappointing campaign for Hibs, who find themselves 9th in Scotland’s top tier. However, the appointment of Mackay brings experience and know how at this level. His eighteen-year playing career saw him feature for Celtic, Norwich and West Ham, as well as making five appearances for Scotland. In management, he has led Cardiff to their first ever League Cup final and won a League Managers Association Championship Manager of the Year award in 2013.
He was also Performance Director at the Scottish Football Association from December 2016 to November 2020, overseeing the development of young players in the country. During his time in the role he also stepped in as caretaker manager, giving four players their debut in his only game in charge.
Football Careers wish Malky Mackay and Hibernian all the success for next season and beyond.
