Neil Lennon appointed Dunfermline Athletic Manager
- Lennon has previously won titles in Scotland with Celtic and Hibernian
- He joins Dunfermline with seven games to go in the season, aiming to secure their Championship status
Football Careers are thrilled to see client Neil Lennon appointed as Dunfermline Athletic manager. The former Northern Ireland international will oversee the club’s finish to the season.
Neil is a highly experienced coach, having started his coaching career in 2008 as an Assistant at Celtic. He then moved into coaching their B team in 2009-2010, before taking on the senior job in 2010 following the departure of Tony Mowbray.
His first stint at The Bhoys saw him win three league titles and two Scottish Cups. He also oversaw the famous 2-1 victory over Barcelona at Celtic Park, one day after the club’s 125th birthday. He went on to manage Bolton Wanderers and Hibernian, winning the Scottish Championship with the Edinburgh side before returning to Celtic in 2019.
Neil’s second spell in Glasgow saw him win a further two league titles, a Scottish Cup, and a League Cup. Since leaving Celtic in 2021, he has managed clubs in Europe, first with Cypriot side Omonoia and then with Rapid București, his most recent role.
In his first press conference as Dunfermline manager, Lennon said:
“Coming in now, it might be a good time to lift the players, lift the club. How long you can do that for remains to be seen. We’ve got seven games to go. We want to win as many as we can. I’m not looking over my shoulder, I’m looking at Hamilton, Queens Park, to finish in a respectable mid-table position. That’s the forethought in our thinking…
“There’s potential here, there’s talent here. I like it, I like the players, what I’ve seen so far. We’ve only been here two days but we’ve been quite surprised by the potential that is here. I know that we’re not in the best of form at the minute, so that is a challenge for myself and Iain (Brunskill) to turn the psychology of the club around and certainly the dressing room as well. The people that we’re working with have been very receptive to us.”
Lennon takes over with Dunfermline in the relegation playoff spot. However, they are just two points behind Hamilton in eighth, with a game in hand.
We are thrilled for Neil and believe that he is the right man to steer the Scottish side to safety. We wish both him and Dunfermline all the best for the rest of the season and beyond.
