Nick Davies Lands Dream Head of Performance Role with his Home Nation

Two decades of learning and experience in the world of fitness and sports science have landed Nick Davies his dream job as Head of Performance with his home nation, Wales.

The shrewd and gifted Football Careers client has been trusted by a host of top clubs and bosses since he began his journey in his sphere of excellence at Charlton Athletic back in 2003.

Now, as Rob Page’s men look ahead to the qualification campaign for Euro 2024, the West Ham United Fitness Coach has been brought in to replace the outgoing Tony Strudwick in the national team set-up. Nick said:

“I’m delighted to be able to say that I am the Head of Performance for my national team. It’s a very proud moment and I can’t wait to get started.”

The Football Association of Wales (FAW) have confirmed that both Nick and Page’s new assistant coach — Eric Ramsay of Manchester United — will combine their key roles with their work at their Premiership clubs. Welsh boss Page stressed:

“Nick and Eric will be two great additions to our staff. Nick has a wealth of experience having been involved in top clubs, and Eric is arguably one of the best young coaches in football at this moment in time.

“The changes give us an opportunity to build on our success, by drip-feeding new players into the squad at the right times.

“Hopefully in the next 12 months, we’ll then have the next batch of players to represent Wales at the top level.”

Davies comes in at a fascinating time for the Welsh team as Page has a new era to build after all the recent successes for the Dragons in major tournaments.

Wales started the World Cup Finals at Qatar 2022 with a promising draw against the USA but then had successive defeats against Iran and England to bow out.

They return to action for the first time since that adventure when they begin their Euro 2024 bid with tough matches against Croatia and Latvia later this month.

Davies has filled the Fitness Coach role at West Ham since the summer of 2021, having also previously worked at the likes of West Brom, Norwich and Birmingham City.
