Pa-Modou Kah Settles into New Assistant Coach Role at Charlotte FC
- The accomplished coach guided underdogs Pacific FC to the Canadian Premier League title in 2021 before joining MLS Next Pro side North Texas SC
- Pa becomes an integral part of Charlotte boss Christian Lattanzio's backroom team with the new appointment
Pa-Modou Kah’s continued rise through the technical area ranks in North America has seen him appointed Assistant Coach at ambitious MLS new boys Charlotte FC.
The 42-year-old Football Careers client rose to prominence as an emerging coach when he guided underdogs Pacific FC to the Canadian Premier League title in 2021. That feat saw him voted Coach of the Year and won him a move to MLS Next Pro side North Texas SC, who are the feeder club for Major League Soccer franchise FC Dallas.
Many felt then that Pa, who had interviewed for the MLS Head Coach role, was being groomed to take over the hot seat there in time.
Charlotte boss Christian Lattanzio, though, has pounced to land the former Norway international midfielder after a notable first season in America’s top flight where they finished just five points off the play-off slots.
Lattanzio has also brought in former Leicester City title-winning left-back Christian Fuchs to bolster his backroom team as Charlotte bid to build on that impressive inaugural campaign.
Kah continued to sparkle as a coach in his own right last season, leading North Texas to the play-offs in their competition, but the MLS has always had a special lure for him.
As a player he starred for both Portland Timbers and Vancouver Whitecaps, as a coach he was an assistant at the Caps before joining FC Cincinnati. Charlotte is the latest stop in the fascinating career of a true football man born in Gambia who emigrated to Norway when he was just eight and began to make his way in the Beautiful Game.
Pa grew up to star for Valerenga in his new homeland before moving to AIK Stockholm in Sweden and then shining for Holland’s Roda JC. After 13 years plying his trade in Europe, a short stint in Qatar was followed by veteran campaigns in Major League Soccer for Timbers and Whitecaps.
Now he is back in the MLS as a coach – and surely destined to make the big step and lead a club there in the not-too-distant future.
