- The UEFA Pro Licence holder is a highly experienced coach who spent 16 years working with Scotland's national teams
Football Careers is delighted to see Pauline MacDonald named Player Pathway Manager at her former club Arsenal Women FC.
MacDonald starred for Arsenal in the early 2000s, winning two league titles and several other domestic honours. She also featured for several Scottish clubs and spent time in the USA, playing for the Atlanta Classics in the USL W-League. On the international stage, MacDonald earned 66 caps for Scotland between 1991 and 2002.
After retiring from playing, MacDonald moved into coaching, becoming manager of Dalkeith Ladies FC in 2007 and leading them to promotion in her first season in charge.
The following year, the UEFA Pro Licence holder joined the Scottish FA as a Youth National Teams Coach, a role that saw her support and develop players across Scotland’s WU15 to WU23 squads.
In 2017, MacDonald was appointed WU17 National Squad Head Coach and Performance Programme Manager. In addition to managing the WU17 team, she led the National Elite Player Performance Programme, where she was responsible for talent identification, individual player development, and curriculum creation.
After 16 years with the Scottish FA, MacDonald moved to the USA in 2024 to lead Dallas Trinity FC in its inaugural USL Super League season. She guided the team to a third-place league finish and was named USL Super League Coach of the Month in October 2024.
In her new position with Arsenal Women, MacDonald will draw on her extensive experience in player development to oversee and strengthen pathways for Academy players transitioning to senior football.
We wish Pauline and Arsenal all the best for the coming seasons, and we look forward to seeing what they will achieve together.
