Pete Shuttleworth joins Wayne Rooney’s Plymouth Argyle as Assistant Head Coach
- Shuttleworth previously worked with Rooney at Birmingham City, DC United and Derby County
- 45-year-old also formed part of the Republic of Ireland’s backroom staff under John O’Shea
Football Careers is delighted to announce that Pete Shuttleworth has joined Wayne Rooney’s Plymouth Argyle as Assistant Head Coach.
After it was announced recently that the 45-year-old had joined up with the Republic of Ireland national team as part of the backroom staff for matches against Hungary and Portugal, Shuttleworth will now take on a new role at Plymouth Argyle under Wayne Rooney.
Rooney is a man Shuttleworth will know well, having worked closely with the former England international in recent years. Shuttleworth first linked up with the ex-Manchester United captain at Derby County, where he took on the role of First Team Analyst and Coach.
Since then, Shuttleworth and Rooney have worked with each other at DC United and Birmingham City, where the experienced coach worked as an Assistant Coach and First Team Coach respectively.
Shuttleworth joins the Pilgrims after the club finished 21st in the Championship last season, avoiding relegation to League One by just one point. On Shuttleworth’s appointment, Rooney said: “Pete is someone who I have known for a long time having worked together at previous football clubs.
“He is an excellent coach with footballing ideals that match mine and Argyle’s but is also an outstanding motivator and has a real knowledge of tactical and performance analysis.
“Ultimately, he is a great person who holds all the values that the football club and I look for and he will complement our current group of coaching staff perfectly.
“I look forward to welcoming him to Argyle and working with him closely when pre-season starts in a few weeks.”
Everyone here at Football Careers wishes Pete the best of luck for the upcoming Championship campaign!
