Stewart Kerr named Head of Goalkeeping at Cavalry FC
- Following a comprehensive headhunt by Football Careers, Kerr has joined the Canadian Premier League club in a key position
Football Careers is delighted to announce that Stewart Kerr has been appointed Head of Goalkeeping at Canadian Premier League club Cavalry FC.
In late 2025, Football Careers was retained by Cavalry FC to find the right candidate for this key position. The club sought a coach with technical and development expertise, in alignment with its philosophy and long-term objectives.
Football Careers conducted a targeted search across Canada and internationally, delivering a strong shortlist within two weeks and enabling Cavalry FC to finalise the appointment ahead of the 2026 preseason.
Stewart was a standout candidate from the beginning, with the experience, approach, and knowledge that the club was looking for in its new Head of Goalkeeping.
He began his coaching career in his homeland, Scotland, in 2008. Since moving to North America in 2011, Stewart has gone on to develop high-performing goalkeepers at MLS clubs such as Minnesota United FC, Vancouver Whitecaps FC, Orlando City SC, and Toronto FC.
Several goalkeepers coached by Stewart have been called up to senior national teams, and Vito Mannone won MLS Goalkeeper of the Year with Minnesota United FC in 2019 under Stewart’s guidance.
Before entering coaching, Stewart enjoyed a 12-year career as a professional goalkeeper, most notably with Scottish Premiership side Celtic FC.
Stewart said of the appointment:
“I’m absolutely delighted to be joining Cavalry FC and to become part of such a successful and ambitious club in the CPL. The culture and standards Head Coach Tommy Wheeldon Jr. and the staff have built here were a huge attraction for me.
“Canada is a country I consider home, and I’m passionate about giving back to the game here. I’m looking forward to working with and mentoring the goalkeepers at all levels of the club and contributing to the continued growth of Cavalry FC and Canadian soccer.”
Tofarati Fakunle, Assistant General Manager at Cavalry FC, commented:
“Football Careers managed the Head of Goalkeeping search process for us at Cavalry FC with real professionalism and clarity throughout. They took the time to properly understand our environment, culture, and long-term objectives, and consistently delivered candidates of a very high calibre. The process was well managed from start to finish, with clear communication and strong market insight at every stage.
“We are delighted with the final appointment and feel Football Careers played a key role in helping us secure the right individual for the role. They proved to be a trusted and effective recruitment partner, and we would have no hesitation in working with them again.”
With the 2026 Canadian Premier League season set to kick off in April, we’re looking forward to seeing what Stewart achieves with Cavalry FC, and we wish him and the club the very best for the coming years.
