Tim Clancy’s Cork City Win Promotion to Ireland Premier Division
- Clancy has been in charge of Cork City since November 2023
- Promotion sees them instantly return to the top flight after relegation last year
Football Careers client Tim Clancy has gained promotion to Ireland’s top flight, the Premier Division. It marks an instant return for the side from the South of Ireland, who were relegated in the 2023 season.
Tim took control of the club in November 2023 and was tasked with bringing The Rebel Army a quick response to a tough season. They did so in style. Cork finished the league in first place with 78 points – 22 points ahead of UCD in second place. They were both the top scorers in the division and had the best defence.
Tim – who hails from County Meath – featured for teams across Ireland, Scotland and England in his playing career, including sides such as Kilmarnock, Hibs and Bray Wanderers. He first took up the role of manager in 2017, for Drogheda United. In his third season with the club, he gained promotion to the top division.
He was hailed for his performance in their first season in the Premier Division, with victories against St Patrick’s, Derry City and Dundalk, despite having one of the smallest budgets in the league.
In 2021 he moved to St Patrick’s Athletic, where he experienced first-team management in the UEFA Europa Conference League. He then guided the club to fourth in his first season – guaranteeing football in the Conference League again in 2023.
He has recently signed a two-year deal with Cork, and when speaking with The Echo he said…
“’If we can bring that enthusiasm, that level of optimism into next season; we want to experience the Cross playing against the big boys and beating them as well.”
We wish him and the club all the best for the coming seasons and believe that with Tim at the helm, the only way is up for Cork City.
