Birmingham City have made a new addition to their coaching staff by appointing Football Careers client Tom Huddlestone as Men’s First Team Assistant Coach. The former England international, known for his impressive career as a midfielder, brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the League One club.
Huddlestone — who recently left his coaching role at Wigan Athletic — succeeds Ashley Cole, who has taken up a full-time position with England’s national team. The 37-year-old’s appointment is seen as a strategic move by Birmingham City, who will be looking to bolster their coaching team as they aim to build on a promising start to the 2024-25 season.
Manager Chris Davies expressed enthusiasm about the new addition, stating:
“Tom is an excellent coach and a great addition to our first-team staff. His vast playing experience, combined with his coaching roles at both club and international levels, will provide a different dynamic to the group. I expect the squad to feed off his knowledge and expertise.”
Huddlestone’s playing career spanned over 600 games, including stints at Derby County, Tottenham Hotspur, Wolves, Hull City, and the England national team. His transition into coaching has been marked by roles with Manchester United’s Under-21s and England’s Under-20s, showcasing his ability to mentor and develop young talent.
Birmingham City, currently sitting second in League One, are optimistic about the impact Huddlestone will have on the team. With his appointment, the club aims to continue its strong performance and push for promotion.
Wishing you all the best, Tom!
