Ross County appoint Tony Docherty as new manager
- Docherty was nominated for the PFA Scotland Manager of the Year and Scottish Football Writers’ Manager of the Year awards while at Dundee
Football Careers are happy to see client Tony Docherty appointed the new manager of Scottish Championship side Ross County. He comes in with the Dingwall side sitting in ninth place after four games, drawing two and losing two to start the season.
Docherty was most recently in charge of Dundee, where he led them to a top-six spot in 2023-24, gaining nominations for the PFA Scotland Manager of the Year and Scottish Football Writers’ Manager of the Year awards. He left his post as manager at Dens Park at the end of last season.
He has also previously worked as Derek McInnes’ assistant at various clubs, including St Johnstone, Bristol City, Kilmarnock, and Aberdeen. Docherty enjoyed a playing career that saw him feature for Stirling Albion, East Stirlingshire, Albion Rovers, and Cambridge United.
Steve Ferguson, Chief Executive at Ross County, said of the appointment:
“He brings with him not only a wealth of experience and proven leadership but also a clear alignment with our club values and long-term vision.
“His commitment to embedding himself within our club and community gives us great confidence as we work together to secure our place back in the Scottish Premiership.
“We were hugely encouraged by the quality of applications we received during the process, and we would like to thank all those who expressed interest in leading our club. Today, however, marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter under Tony Docherty.”
Football Careers wish Tony and Ross County all the best for the current season, as the club look to bounce straight back to Scotland’s top flight after relegation last season.
