Danny Holmes has been appointed first team manager at Northern Premier League Division One West side Vauxhall Motors FC.
Holmes — a defender who is a product of Tranmere Rovers’ Academy system — began playing football at the age of seven. His senior career has taken him to clubs across England and Wales, including The New Saints, Fleetwood Town, Newport County, and York City.
During two spells at Tranmere Rovers, the 34-year-old made 134 appearances for the EFL League Two club. After a stint with Bangor City, Holmes signed for Cymru Premier outfit Connah’s Quay Nomads in 2018.
The UEFA A Licence holder has coached young Academy players at his former club, Tranmere Rovers, and has also gained experience in first-team coaching at Cymru Premier’s Colwyn Bay. Holmes is the founder of Elite Player Development, a private coaching company that offers one-to-one sessions, group sessions, and training camps to aspiring footballers.
Commenting on Holmes’ appointment, Vauxhall Motors FC chairman Jon Waring said:
“We’re delighted to bring in Danny as the new First Team Manager. From our first meeting, I could sense Danny’s drive and ambition to succeed.
“Following the departure of Mick McGraa, the committee wanted someone who could take the reigns and move the first team forward. During the recruitment process, we established that Danny was our first-choice candidate and we’re delighted to get this deal over the line.”
In an interview with the club’s media team, Holmes remarked:
“I’m delighted to be appointed first team manager. I will be getting to work straight away to improve the team collectively and individually. We have amazing potential to reach our objectives for this season and beyond. I will leave no stone unturned. I can’t wait to get going.”
Holmes’ experience in English and Welsh football — alongside his coaching acumen and passion for developing talented players — will stand him in good stead as he takes the reins at Vauxhall Motors FC.
Holmes’ squad took on then second-place Northern Premier League Division One West rivals Clitheroe on Saturday (28th October), emerging with a 2-1 win, and sealed a 3-3 draw with Leek Town on Tuesday (31st October).
The club’s next fixture will see them face Mossley at home on Saturday 4th November.
