Raymond Atteveld appointed Assistant Head Coach of Shakhtar Donetsk
Born in the Netherlands, Raymond Atteveld began his senior playing career with former Eredivisie side HFC Haarlem in 1985. Four years later, Atteveld secured a dream move to Everton. He made his debut in 1989 and would become one of just nine Dutchmen to have played for the club.
The 56-year-old Football Careers client enjoyed spells in teams across Belgium and the Netherlands before he hung up his boots in 2002. Since then, Atteveld has embarked upon a fascinating coaching career that has seen him work with leading clubs in Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Israel, and Armenia.
Now, the UEFA Pro Licence holder takes up an exciting new role as assistant head coach at Ukrainian Premier League’s Shakhtar Donetsk. Atteveld will continue his partnership with new Shakhtar Donetsk manager Patrick van Leeuwen, who he worked alongside last season at Ukrainian Premier League rivals Zorya Luhansk.
In 2009, Shakhtar Donetsk made history as the first club in independent Ukraine to win the UEFA Cup (now known as the Europa League). It is one of two Ukrainian clubs — the other being Dynamo Kyiv — that has won a major UEFA competition.
On Saturday 29th July, Shakhtar Donetsk’s new season will begin with an away fixture to Metalist 1925.
Paul Clark is Dundee United’s new Head of Academy Talent ID & Recruitment
During his playing days, Paul Clark spent time at Airdrieonians under the management of Aberdeen, Tottenham Hotspur, and Barcelona legend Steve Archibald. Archibald had earlier tried to sign Clark for East Fife, and would later become his agent.
Now, in the world of talent identification and recruitment, Clark hears Archibald’s name often. When he took up a lead scout position for Aberdeen’s youth academy, Jim Fraser (head of academy recruitment at Aberdeen) said: “If you find another Steve Archibald for Aberdeen, you’ve done your work!”
Clark began his scouting career with Dundee in 2014, who appointed him Head of Scottish Recruitment in 2021. In his work with Dundee, Dundee United, and Aberdeen, the Football Careers client has garnered experience in talent identification and recruitment across various Academy age groups.
That experience — along with his sharp eye for special talent — will stand Clark in good stead as he begins his new role at Dundee United.
