Two Football Careers clients are making moves at EFL League One side Shrewsbury Town. Shrewsbury has named Daniel Reece — who was most recently Lead Youth Development Phase Coach at the club — as its new Head of Coaching.
Reece initially joined Shrewsbury Town as a Youth Development Phase Coach in early 2022. Previously, the UEFA A Licence holder coached at various clubs throughout England and Wales, including Wrexham, Chester, and Connah’s Quay Nomads. In 2018, Reece took his coaching career overseas to Liverpool FC International Academy in China, where he spent more than three years as Academy Manager and Head Coach.
With additional roles in performance analysis and sports lecturing under his belt — alongside a Master of Science degree in Sports Coaching and a PGCE in Further Education — Reece’s breadth of experience and knowledge has served him well at Shrewsbury, where his newest position will see him support and develop both players and coaches within the club.
Gareth Richards has stepped into the Lead Youth Development Phase Coach role previously held by Reece, bringing with him a wealth of experience garnered at teams across Wales and England.
The UEFA A Licence coach has worked within Academy systems at several English and Welsh clubs, including Everton and Wrexham. Richards has also contributed to player development at the national level with the Football Association of Wales (FAW) as North Academies U18 Manager, and with the FAW Trust in the role of Boys National Regional Programme Coach.
Richards’ impressive track record in player development is bolstered by an ongoing commitment to his own personal and professional development — alongside his coaching qualifications, he holds a Master of Science degree in Sports Coaching, Sports and Exercise, and an Honours Bachelor of Science in Science and Football. He is well-positioned to lead Shrewsbury Town’s young players at a key stage in their development.
